INTERVIEW WITH RIDERS AND TEAMS

INTERVIEW WITH........

LINDA MELANIE SERUP

1. Can you introduce yourself?

I'm Linda Melanie Serup, 20 years old and from Denmark. I started cycling in 1996, and did first 4 years of racing before I decided to try theTriathlon. Then I went from Triathlon to long-distance running and then back to cycling again.

2. What kind of rider are you actually?

I see myself as an allrounder, I can do a good time trial. But I haven't specialized anything yet.

3. How do you see the Buitenpoort Flexpoint Team? And how is too ride with a.o Ljungskog and Melchers?

I think Team Buitenpoort/Flexpoint is the best, not only do we have great names like Melchers and Ljungskog, but in the team we also have Tanja Hennes, Lada Kozlikova and Amber Neben. From whom I'm sure I can learn a lot from. Also the Dutch riders in the team are great, I believe Vera (Koedooder) and I (the young riders of the team) are very lucky to be in a team with such experienced riders..

4. How do you look back at the first part of the season?

The first part of the season has been awesome, I was looking forwards for starting again all winter. We had Mirjam in the World Cup leaders jersey and the team is on top of The World Ranking as well, I just hope we can continue in the way we started..

5. What is in your eyes the best effort so far in your career?

Well, I really do not see any career highlights for me, I am no champion in anything...yet.. But I see my 2 places in the World Cup as my personal best so far...

6. How do you see the future of women cycling in Denmark?

It is definitely looking bright.. Hopefully in the upcoming years we will be able to turn up to the big events with a team, maybe even with a full team. At the moment we have 3 very strong junior girls, so yes it is looking very good..

7. And the future of women cycling in the World?

Also getting much bigger, with more competition and hopefully even more teams...

8. Last year you rode a part of the season for the Dutch Farm-Frites Hartol team. How was it too ride in a team with the best rider of the last years Leontien Zijlaard-Van Moorsel? Did you learn a lot from here?

I actually didn't ride with Leontien, I wished I had though. I only did a few races with them, but it was like living in a dream hehe. Just a few weeks before I watched some of the girls in the Olympic Games, and then suddenly I was with them on the startline, it was amazing...

9. What are your goals for the rest of the season? And what's your schedule for the upcoming weeks?

I hope that the Buitenpoort/Flexpoint team will continue in the way we did until now, and with a lot more victories to come.. For myself, I want to do well in the European U23 Championships.. My program for the upcoming weeks will be the races in Castilla, Tour de L'Aude and the World Cup in Montreal. After that I am not sure what the program is really...

10. What is it that you choose cycling as your sport?

I love the training, I really love the races and I need the competition. Cycling gives me all of that. But the best thing is to know that it is possible to improve and get better and be
